Area Forum and Funding

Don’t miss your opportunity to have your say on what’s going on in your area

If you care about your community, would like to discuss local issues or simply wish to have your say why not come along to a meeting of your Area Forum.

The whole of the City is divided into five areas and each area of the City has its own area Forum which you can attend.

The Forums enable you to find out what’s happening in your neighbourhood, have your say, influence the decisions that you know best and which most affect you. Area Forums bring you together with your local Councillors, County Councillors and representatives from other agencies such as the police and Health Service. A new feature for 2006 will see a senior manager from the Council’s newly formed Neighbourhood Services Division attending each Area Forum meeting to respond to any questions relating to litter, household waste and grounds maintenance.

The Forums are lively and popular, with attendances averaging over 40. One of the main features of the Area Forums is the 30-minute “Open Forum” session where members of the public have the opportunity to answer questions on issues that matter to them and their community. The “Open Forums” often result in much lively debate and examples of themes emerging from the “open Forums” have included:

· Local crime and disorder concerns

· Traffic issues, traffic calming and speed enforcement

· Public transport issues

Litter and street scene.

Area Forums are held across the city throughout the year (please see the attached schedule) or to find out more simply contact the Area Forum Manager at the Town Hall, Preston. Tel; 01772 906372 or see us on the website: www.preston.gov.uk.

Don’t worry if you are unable to attend a meeting in person you can still take part.

Written questions can be forwarded onto the Area Forum Manager who will ensure that your question is referred onto the appropriate person together with a request that you be sent a full written response which will be included with the agenda for the next meeting of the Forum. Questions can either be emailed to n.heckford@preston.gov.uk or submitted by post to Nigel Heckford, Area Forum Manager, Corporate Services Directorate, Policy communications and Performance, The Town Hall, Lancaster Road, Preston.

You can now also keep in touch with the Forums through the NEW FREE to use mobile text messaging service.
